Labor Day in April -

Labor Day has always had a special meaning to us as it was officially the weekend that our first was born.  Connor made his entrance to the world on Labor Day weekend 2009 and being the first of the 801 babies to make his way into the world, he was warmly welcomed by a party in Redondo/Hermosa beach which had previously been our tradition over Labor Day weekend.  Pretty fitting welcoming.  We celebrated our own Labor Day for the 3rd with with the entrance of little miss Kaitlyn Alice.  This blog detail is mostly for her so that she doesn’t think she just effortlessly slipped into this world!!

So, our little girl proved to us she had a mind of her own long before she arrived on the scene.  You would think by the 3rd time around, your body would just recognize labor and say “ok – let’s get this show on the road”.  But no, little miss had other plans.  Both Connor and Drew decided to show up at least a couple days before their due dates so I was convinced BK3 would do the same.  On top of that, I had a due date “range” of April 11-20th and from the beginning, I stated there was no way I was making it to the 20th.  My last day of work was conveniently April 5th so I could have a little time to hang out with the boys before baby arrived on the scene.  As the dates drew closer, I became more anxious and really ready to hold our baby.  Most of all, I was dying to find out if we were going to have a little miss who would provide her brothers with tons of unsolicited advice on clothing and girls or a third little man who would undoubtedly spend every minute keeping up with his amazing older brothers!  So, when labor began on Sunday April 7th – I thought we were golden!  After not much excitement, few hours later it stopped.  “Ok” I thought, “no big deal.  I have a few more things I want to do anyway”.  We got our week of fun in with the boys, we all got sick, we all got better and then I thought – perfect…. NOW we’re ready.  So when labor started again on Tuesday April 16th – I was VERY sure it was the real deal.
Family of Four Before 1st trip to Dr.
Contractions were 12 minutes apart when we headed to the doctor’s office just before they closed for the day.  They asked us to come up just to do a check.  When we got there, I was 3cm dilated and they said I could either head to the hospital or keep laboring at home for a bit longer.  Wanting to spend as little time as possible at the hospital (Drew spoiled us with his 1 1/2 after hospital arrival), I elected to head home.  Contractions ramped up to about 5 minutes apart on the drive, but something must have convinced baby to stay comfy a bit longer because within 30 minutes of getting home, EVERYTHING stopped!

Family of Four (again) Before heading to Hospital
Dan & I spent the majority of the next week living in 4 hour segments… made it through the night… we’ll talk at lunch.  Made it through lunch, guess I have to figure out something for dinner.  My parents picked up the phone anticipating the word “go time”.  Each time I called them, I literally started the conversation not with hello but with “nothing’s going on”.  My second due date of April 20th, the date I swore I wouldn’t see without holding a baby, came and went!  BOO! On the afternoon of April 22nd (Monday), I snuck in a nap while the boys napped.  I was awoken around 4pm with a contraction but didn’t get my hopes up. After about an hour of 15 minutes apart, I finally called my parents and invited them in for dinner (as long as they brought their overnight bags with them) and called Dan at work, told him not to tell co-workers (because he left work the week before and went back empty handed!!), and just said to wrap up a couple things in case he didn’t make it to work tomorrow.  I ate toast while everyone else enjoyed a good dinner and we headed to the hospital around 8:30pm. By the time the nurses had us all checked in, connected to monitors, plugged into IV, etc, I was at a 5.  A few hours later and a lot of leaning on Dan and having him practically punch my back (what a trooper!), the Dr. arrived.  He walked in the room and asked “still smiling???”. (((( I totally took that as a compliment!))))  It was right before this that I told Dan I was ready to call the Magic Man (aka Epidural Guy).  However, the Doc said we’re at 9 1/2 so I said let’s go!  The next 20 minutes were a bit of a blur – but at 4 minutes after midnight on April 23rd, we met miss Kaitlyn!

I can't believe how each time we've been through this, Dan & I seem to grow a little closer still.  I am so lucky to have such an amazing support man.  He somehow managed to say the exact thing I needed when I needed it.  He gave me someone to lean on (literally and figuratively!)  He knew how to look right at me and tell me I could do it.  I love this quote and for me holds so true --- "I never knew how much I loved your Daddy until I saw how much you loved you".    Love you Dan :)

Stats:
Kaitlyn weighed in at 7lbs, 11 oz (exactly in the middle of her two brothers who were 6lbs, 11oz (Connor) and 8lbs, 11oz (Drew).  She was 20 inches of little perfection!  Thanks for coming into our lives – we’re sure they’ll never be the same.

Pre-Baby Adventures

April 5th was my last official work day.  I have very much been looking forward to hanging out with the boys for a few days without any conference calls, PPT presentations or Excel documents to distract.  We had a full week of activities planned to keep them entertained and unfortunately, I only remembered the camera on one of them.  We had FUN fun fun..... until we all got SICK!

SATURDAY--
The first day, we drove to Bozeman to visit the Museum of the Rockies.  It was Saturday so Dan was excited that he would get in on this one as did my parents.  The kids loved the Dinos (Drew learned how to say it).

Connor has been watching and learning with real fishing.  Most of the kids were just setting the line over and trying to get the fish and then picking up the rod.  Connor had a full fledged cast and then wanted to reel the fish in.  We need to get him out fishing again this summer!!

MONDAY --  Monday was SWIM day!  Connor and Drew both loved jumping off the side of the pool into waiting arms of either Mommy or Nana or Papa!  Connor has become so independent with his floaty and loves to doggy paddle from one side of the pool to the other.  Drew is a bit more cautious all of a sudden.  He loves to be in someone's arms but is a happy participant in splashing.  He too loved jumping off the side of the pool and when we were done he looked right at me and said (one more peeze).  Who can resist that!??!!

TUESDAY -- One of the local photographers is doing a special project where she wanted to photograph local moms with their kids.  I feel like Dan & I spend a lot of time behind the camera and not much in pictures, so I am trying to take Stace's advice and "get in the picture".  We met Daddy for lunch at Great Harvest and then went to "play" in front of the camera.  I can't wait to see some of the images she captured.  It was one of those truly natural photo sessions where she wanted the kids to run and jump and play.  Connor spotted a trampoline and asked if he could jump and of course, Drew needed in on the action too.  We laughed and played and had a great time!

WEDNESDAY -- Supposed to be park day -- weather decided against it!  Instead, Dan came home for lunch.  That's the level of excitement I could muster as I think the next day was about to catch me.

THURSDAY -- SICK!!!  EVERYONE laid in bed with a stomach bug that was absolutely no fun at all!!  Luckily my mom came in to the rescue to take care of the kids (mostly Drew as he's the only one that escaped the bug).  Connor, Dan & I all got some quality time with our pillows or the restroom.

WEEKEND --1st birthdays and fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House and party people -- oh my!

MONDAY -- More birthdays -- but not Caboose!  Happy birthday to Papa Dan!!

COUNTDOWN to BABY ---  looking forward to baby's arrival and celebrating a 0th birthday!!

Easter Fun

These kids keep us Hoppin!  Our Easter this year was a lot of fun as it started by searching for for baskets in the morning in PJs.  We then all made our way to church followed by brunch at Fairmont and an egg search at my parent’s house.  We could not have had better weather (probably the best weather I ever remember here for Easter)!   As a result, you get to see me in a nice flowery tent!!

The kids had so much fun searching for eggs and were such good sharers!!   Hoping that continues for many years to come but won't hold my breath!

Personalized Petting Zoo

This past weekend the kids got exposed to life on a farm!  Our family friends the Butori’s own a ranch about 3 miles from my parents house.  The late winter/early spring is calving and lambing season for them and the kids got to go over and feed the 2 week old bum lambs.  They had so much fun getting to feed and pet these lambs and I had so much fun watching the smiles on their faces!

Thanks Michelle & Doug for such a fun afternoon!

Officially Grounded

As of Saturday, I am done with 37 weeks/ starting week 38!  I can’t believe baby Kach #3  will be here so soon, and yet it seems like it is a long time away.  We are so excited to count down these last 3 weeks.  That also means that I am officially grounded.

So this blog was originally written a few weeks ago – just after my travels to San Diego and San Jose.  My OB has a no-fly rule with 6 weeks to go and I had to make sure I got as close to the wire as possible…. of course!   I was lucky enough to add an 8  hour stop in San Diego to my last San Jose work trip for a while.

Thank you Dina, Mark, Frank & Rosie for sharing Makenna with me!  You are excellent new parents and she is one beautiful little girl!  Here are a couple group shots but I’m not going to spoil any up-close pics from Dina’s sharing.

Monday night I was lucky enough to be joined for dinner by ABaalG and team Greenwood.  Thanks for keeping me company guys!  It was so great to catch up!  Thanks for making time in your busy weeks for me Smile  Next flights will be as a family of 5!!  That just sounds crazy!

I got back on Tuesday at 11pm and we had Grandma Betsy as a visitor for the weekend arriving on Thursday!  The boys had a great time with her and I’m sad to say that I wasn’t on top of the photo ops.   Luckily – they will be here again soon!

Two More Feet

February 2012 186
I’ve been wanting to take these shots forever, but like so many things, it got put on the backburner.  Finally – at 33 weeks, I buckled down and got them done.  I love the 4 feet already in this picture and can’t wait to find out who is going to fill these empty shoes.  We are anxiously awaiting what fun a house of 3 boys will bring or what new frilly things a little girl might add.  All I can say is that if we are lucky enough to have a healthy little baby who is as much fun as these two guys, we know we are blessed!

Skiing!

February 3, 2013 – A day that Dan has looked forward to for over 4 years……

I am actually not exaggerating.  I remember being pregnant with Connor and having discussions / debates on how old he or she  would have to be when we finally introduced skiing.    Dan thought sometime shortly after walking sounded about right.  I remember saying that they had to be able to “run, fall, get up and not cry” before we would even think about it.  Looking back now we both laugh at how much fun it is to anticipate something and how your ideas of parenting change over time.  There have already been lots of things we’ve changed or done that we said “we’d never do”…. haha!  I’m sure there will be lots more too!!

Connor’s introduction to skiing came on the perfect day.  Super Bowl Sunday was a beautiful “blue-bird” ski day, with temps in the 20’s and a beautiful sun with bright blue skies.  Perfect Montana skiing as I remember it.  My parents took Drew for a little one-on-one time and we took Connor to the mountain for his special Mommy, Daddy & me day.  After the chaos of getting all of his ski clothes on, only to have to decide he then needed to use the potty (oh – yeah – I think I can officially say we are POTTY TRAINED!), and then putting ski clothes all back on, we hit the mountain.  Dan & I had all of our ski clothes, helmet, goggles, etc on just to provide an example, although my grand total on skis was skating over to the magic carpet and Dan put his on for a lovely ride up the magic carpet and  1/2 of a trip down the magic carpet run.  Never have either of us been so happy to be at the mountain and not even get to ski!!!  I would NEVER have guessed that of Extreme Dan!

February 2012 120

Connor did absolutely wonderful and kept saying how much fun he had.  His dad beamed from ear to ear as he was watching his future ski / snowboard / mountain buddy being formed.  We tried to teach Connor pizza wedges, but he much preferred to put his hands on his knees and effectively tuck it to the bottom!  The kid hasn’t learned how to stop yet --- but I guess that can be for a different day.  February 2012 134February 2012 129Thumbs up!

Looking forward to many future years of fun days at the mountain!  Hope we’re lucky enough that the other two love it too!!
